Hometown: Crowley, Louisiana
Major: Communication Studies and African-American Studies
Why I Chose Northwestern:
Northwestern was honestly the perfect school for me. I chose NU for every possible reason—besides the seasons (as a Louisianan, I only look forward to summer). NU is nationally ranked for a range of different majors I am interested in (just in case I switch). NU has a quarter system—ideal for students like me who have multiple interests, making it much easier to double or triple major. Northwestern may not have an abundance of low-income students, but the first-generation, low-income (FGLI) community is strong and ideal for first-generation students
Campus Activities and organizations:
Compass, AccessibleNU, and Cookology (Northwestern’s Culinary Arts Club)
What I plan to do after graduation:
While I am not sure exactly the career I would like to pursue, I know that I would like to analyze media and literature to learn to better communicate about taboo topics such as racism and sexual assault. There are many careers that would allow me to do this, but I hope that I am able to find one that will allow me to do so in a creative way—hopefully involving writing!
How being a WEAA Scholar has made a difference in my undergraduate experience:
WEAA has rewarded me in many different shapes and sizes, ranging from introducing me to amazing friends and mentors within the WEAA network as well as covering the costs of my externship at CBS, an opportunity that will help me began the career path that I am striving for.
